Meeting Minutes

July 10, 2007 6:00pm

Genoa Town Hall

Meeting was called to order by Co-Chairman Bill Bowersock at 6:04pm

Due to the lack of a quorum the meeting was just an exchange of information.

Those present were Sue Knight, Penny Speir, Mary Savage (International Minute Press), Diane Borges, Jo Hamblem, Connie Roth, Lynne Bowersock, Karen Holmes, Marilyn Presti, Keith Corban and Darlene Tiffany.

Bill Bowersock announced that it was a "go" on the park platform as all the permits were completed and approved (on June 16th) at a cost of $380.00.  Now the work begins with the digging of the foundation the last weekend in July and a Fund Drive for donations of "contractor time" and materials with an estimated cost of between $3100 and $5000.  Significant donations will have a plaque somewhere on the platform.

Lisa Granahan’s report included road work by Canyon Creek Construction on the dirt roads July 17th, slurry coating in Sierra Shadows, 280 crafters have been juried for the Candy Dance, candy making begins Aug. 6, the Garage Sale is this weekend and a Concert in the park is Aug. 19th.  Town Hall floor will be redone the weekend of July 23rd and strategic planning session for the town is August 21st (?).

Sue Knight then reported on the Town brochure and map which was designed (in the form of a "Pocket Guide") by Sue and three members of her committee who also did all the "leg" work on getting it completed.  Sue wrote a grant provided by the Nevada Commission on Tourism for $13,000.  It required matching funds in the form of volunteer hours, which was completed by the committee and then some.  Sue then handed out some brochures to those present stating that they would be printing 10,000 and hoped businesses would have them available for visitors as far as in a 100 mile radius.  4000 will be going to the airport and Sue asked that anyone traveling would take some with him or her to distribute.  Christy Tolbert of ABE Printers in Minden did the printing of the brochure.  This same brochure may be obtained on the web.  This is a ‘one time’ thing not to be upgraded at a later time.  The only question remaining is where they will be stored.

Lynne Bowersock reported on the Gazebo Information Booth manned by GGBA members on the weekends.  She had six of the eight volunteers needed.  All information materials are available and stored at Gilmore & Coons Realty.

Marilyn Presti reported on the formation of the "Genoa Wedding Group" which is a part of the GGBA.  They had their first meeting June 21st to plan their course of action.  First, Genoa is going to be the featured article in the "Wedding Affair" magazine and all businesses that want to be included must have information to the committee before July 31st.  Advertising is also available at a discounted price.  Second, the group is planning two Open Houses to be held in the Town Hall on November 3rd and the end of February 2008 to promote weddings in Genoa.
She also announced the Celebration of Art in the Genoa Park on July 29th.

Bill announced the highway clean up was done by Randy Falcke, Bill and Lynne Bowersock, Dick Mattinson, Tom Peters, and Dave Stewart.
He also announced that Pete Levy is available for the CPR class on July 24th in the Town Hall at 7:00.

Lynne Bowersock then reported on Letter Boxing and that she had received permission from three of the locales where the boxes will be hidden also the information should be on line by Saturday at Letter Boxing.org.  The purpose is to bring people to Genoa.  School children and organizations need to be contacted to get involved in Letter Boxing.  Suggestion was to have an article in the Record Courier.

Keith Corban reported that the web site contract is up and they should transfer to GoDaddy.com (domain names) for 3 years at $21.00.
