The Greater Genoa Business Association
was organized in late summer 1991 and became a nonprofit Nevada
corporation in October. Membership is composed of local business
owners, interested residents and nearby business people.
The mission of the Greater Genoa Business Association is to better our community
and promote tourism.
Greater Genoa Business Association Accomplishments
- Candidate's Night - for area residents to
meet state, county and local candidates. Tapes of the events
ran several times on TV.
- 1992, 1994 and 1996 Participation
in "Snowshoe Thompson Day"
- 1992-1995 Annual printing of 5,000 or more Genoa brochures with several Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce matching grants. Later increased to 35,000 with grants from chamber and NCOT and to 50,000 in 1996. Mailed 89 to distributors with return card for ordering in 1993 and continued to distribute brochures.
- 1991-1997 Sale of Candy Dance tickets at local businesses
- 1992-1993 Participation in NDOT 'Adopt-A-Highway' program since 1993
- Installation of area-identification sign, 'Visit Historic Genoa, Nevada's first settlement - 1851' at Hwy. 395 and Genoa Lane. Governor Bob Miller and then Douglas County Commission Chairman Dave Pumphrey "cut the ribbon"
- Host of the National Tour Operators Farm Tour in May 1992 and May 1993 for lunch, brief history of Genoa and a tour of the Genoa Courthouse Museum.
- Preparation and publication of the Genoa
Area Directory with listings of residential phone numbers of
a majority of residents. Supported by sales of local ads.
- Mailing of 100 press releases with cover letter, brochure and panoramic photo of Genoa to publicize area
and attract tourists. CVC of C matching grant.
- Tourism exhibit won 1st prize at the 1994 Nevada State Fair in NCOT contest.
- Second prize 1996 Flagpole with US Flag and 1976 town flag in town center triangle.
- Sponsored Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce

revegetation of Autumn Hills
- Sponsorship since 1993 of tables and chairs on the deck at Genoa Store
- Continuing efforts to secure a state highway sign showing the direction of Genoa at Highway 395 and Jacks Valley Road
- Snowshoe Thompson Project - Sponsoring and commissioning Snowshoe Thompson Monument in 1999 - 2000.
- Visitor's Information Gazebo on Saturday and Sunday (May to October) at corner of Main St. and Nixon St. since 2007.
- Built bandstand in Genoa Town Park for concerts and weddings, April 2008
